Default why should I play GW

hi,

i got some questions because i'm a world of warcraft player but i played once gw(nightfall) but i didn't like it .
but maybe there were things that i didn't know about that game , that is pretty cool .
Can you tell me wich cool things you can do in this game that is much better then world of warcraft ( but don't tell that you don't have to pay cuz i'm only mlooking at the gameplay)
And can you get armor by doing sorts of donjon or just by doing pvp ?

You have to craft armors using gold and materials. But seriously, stick with WoW. Maybe GW PvP is better than WoW, other than that, the PvE side is pretty lacking.

GW overall was probably better up untill nightfall, when they added heroes and the community was way to spread out(+ The heroes lowered the party rate even more).
Right now, as much as it pains me to say it, WoW is probably better then GW.

there are some good things about WoW that I like, and some bad things.
However, in talking about GW1, there is a whole new world to explore. No, it's not setup the same as WoW... it is more instance based and not seamless, that does not make it a bad game. No one is gonna come steal your loot, drop or wahtever. No you can't see what other toon's weapons are.. if they want to tell you they will. Some privacy is not a bad thing. The main thing is being able to explore a whole new world. One that is different in some ways from WoW but similar in other ways.

Not to mention not having to pay every month for a game you already bought.

And it shows by the lack of quality of GW lately. Seriously, he already said he doesn't want to hear that stuff.

Most of you complain about paying for WoW when you yourself probably pay for Xbox live or something

That's really a question you can answer only by yourself.

Roleplaying in depth, with a much bigger PvE parting? WoW.

Competetive play among other players? GW.

Although GW has gone downhill; I still believe it to be a top quality game in terms of competetive PvP in RPG's.

GW has several advantages over WoW: free to play, several PvP components, level cap of 20 (less time leveling up), more realistic graphics, just to name a few.

I agree that the PvE aspect of WoW is prolly more extensive.

Bar comprehension and flexibility. Your bar needs to be able to face many different tasks and not be a one-trick pony. Aswell as your in-game skill in positioning, and tactics. (More in the higher level arenas though)

I'm not helping and I apologize for that.

WoW has many things going for it. It has the seamless world.. that's awesome. The crafting is very nice.
The world is HUGE!
The player base is immense.
The reason to play GW...
It is a new game to explore, it is also free to play.
It is second in player base only to WoW, yes it is the next most popular MMO.
Pvp... can't help ya. I enjoy PvE too much.

IMHO, NF is the most boring campaign of them all. Yes you get hero's, that's preety much the only good thing about it.
Oh and Kamadan is also great (a.k.a Spamadan)

But if you like WoW better, stick to that game. Don't play a game you do not enjoy.

At least it's only about ??40 for a year of xbox live, if WoW was that yearly, I would give it a try no problem, I can't justify paying around 100 (I forget what the prices are pound wise) a year just to play a game, which also makes you feel forced to play just to get your moneys worth.

I think GW is a great game, it's not for everyone, and some people say it sucks now, but other people say it's great (and I don't mean people who have only played it for a month or two <_< )

Basically to the thread creator, if you prefer to grind to level 70ish (I forget the level cap for it) and do big dungeons that requires ALOT of people, STICK with WoW, if you want to try a game that gets you to the max level early on and lets you get on with the story, then try GW.

OH and you said you played Nightfall first, I recommend trying prophecies first, the NF story is boring at the beginning but picks up later on, while the prophecies story (IMO) is great from the get go, and gives you a nice place to look at before the story really begins (pre-searing >_> )

Paying monthly for XBox Live != anything close to paying monthly for WoW.

You pay monthly for Internet to play your PC games online and then WoW has it's own added cost of $15 a month. That'd be the equivalent of say, you purchase XBox Live for a year but then end up having to pay $15 a month to play a particular game on the XBox Live which you ALREADY PURCHASED. Your analogy is flawed.

Furthermore, if you need to make a thread asking such a question as "why should I play GW?" then the answer is, you shouldn't. You should play a game because you want to play it, you shouldn't have people reason you into playing it. If you are going to do that, then why even bother?

Well, your first problem is that you started with Nightfall. I'm sure a lot of people (A LOT of people) would disagree with me, but in my opinion, Nightfall is the worst of the 4.

Reasons GW is better than WoW:
-The game is based on skill, not ability to grind. If you're a casual gamer, you can be just as good as some nerd who plays 16 hours a day.
-The player base is generally very accepting. Most of us don't consider "pwning n00bs" as one of our hobbies.
-Better graphics. Some people aren't bothered by WoW's crappy graphics, but Anet did a good job at creating a somewhat realistic world. It's not like walking into a cartoon.
-It's not a second job, like many WoW players consider gaming to be. So no 3-5 hour raids required.
-It doesn't tend to devour your soul like WoW does.

I just read every post here.

I like GW plenty. I have never played WoW so I can't comment on it. I've played GW for 2.5 years. I'm NOT a hardcore gamer but I am really into fantasy (books, movies, artwork, etc). I got GW because it got very good reviews on the game sites and was the only free MMORPG. I simply don't play enough to warrant paying a monthly fee. Well that's a lie. I play GW weekly but I still like the option of taking a guilt free hiatus if I choose.

The graphics are beautiful (especially in the Eye of the North expansion). I'm lucky to have been playing with the same guild group for 2 years so it is still loads of fun. I DON'T like that the environment is not pervasive (seamless) but that is to change in GW2.

Looking with hindsight there is NOT a lot in the way of out-of-the-box tutorial for GW but Guild Wiki (and this site) more than make up for that. I've been thoroughly impressed with the knowledge base found in both locations.

GW is good for problem solving. Because you can re-allocate skills and attribute points as well as weapons and armor and the mix of your party, there is always a way to overcome foes and obstacle. It's not what I would call the perfect RPG but as a video game it is quite inventive. I envy players seeing it all for the first time.

I don't know why Nightfall gets so bashed. I think it has some of the nicest environments. As for narratives (story lines) well...I read George R. R. Martin and compared to that ALL fantasy story lines are lacking.

I do wish GW was a bit more adult (blood, gore - think God of War or Prince of Persia) but you sell more tickets for PG13 than R and sell more games with a T rating than M.

I hope you give GW a try.
